#73 – 2022 New Year’s Resolutions

Unpacking Education January 5, 2022 20 min

Happy 2022! In this episode, we reflect on the past year and discuss our resolutions, as we look at our teaching practice and our relationships with students, their families, and our colleagues in the coming year. We reached out on social media for your input. Join us as we share your goals, reflections, and wishes for the new year.

As Danielle Reyes, one of our special guests from this year, shared with us via Twitter: “Keep your cup full so you can fill others. Focus less on content and more on meaningful connections. Allow students to be agents of their learning with voice, choice, & self-reflection. Stress less and move more. Work with students to select ‘one word’ to anchor 2022 goals.”

Danielle’s response is a jumping off point for our conversation, touching on key concepts that underline our 2022 goals for our classrooms. She shares the thoughtfulness, joy, and community that are hallmarks of her classroom and that of her colleagues at Black Mountain Middle School in Poway Unified School District.

What Is Your Anchor Word for 2022?

Join us for this episode to consider how we bring joy, kindness, and positivity into our classrooms to support our students, their families, and our colleagues in the coming year. We use this time together to reflect on an anchor word for this year, taking our inspiration from Danielle Reyes, an AVID alum who is approaching her eighth year as an 8th grade language arts, social studies, and AVID Elective teacher. Danielle encourages her students to select one word that will become their cornerstone to return to throughout the year in reminding them of their goals and what they want to achieve. What will your one word be?

This episode is a special thank-you to our listeners. We appreciate your feedback and all that you do!
