Curipod has been redesigned into a writing platform. In its new form, Curipod turns writing practice into a whole-class experience with every student writing and every student getting feedback, all in the same class period.
Jens Aarre Seip, CEO and Co-Founder of Curipod, acknowledges, “Writing is one of the hardest things to teach well. Not because teachers don’t know how, but because good feedback takes time nobody has. Thirty students, thirty responses, and hours of grading before a single kid sees a comment. By then the lesson’s cold and the moment’s gone. Curipod was built for exactly that gap.”
He adds, “Curipod is a teacher-paced platform that gets every student writing and gets every student real-time feedback while the learning is still fresh. Students write, reflect, revise, and come back together to discuss, all inside one lesson.”
Teachers guide the lesson and remain in control the whole way through.
Seip explains that Curipod is not intended to replace current curriculum. Rather, it is intended to elevate it. Curipod is mapped to standards and is aligned to existing curriculum programs like Bluebonnet Learning and HMH Into Reading.
Basic features are included in the free plan. Advanced features require a subscription.
Key Features
Below, you’ll find a deeper dive into five key features of Curipod.
Teachers choose writing practice that is aligned to their state, standards, and grades they teach. After selecting a category, they choose a specific skill to practice. For instance, they may choose the category of revision and the specific skill of using adverbs. They can even select a high interest topic to be applied to the examples in the student activity.
Curipod uses the teacher choices to create a full lesson, including a slideshow and student activities.
Students join the lesson and writing activity using a pin or QR code. There are no accounts required.
Once all students have joined, the teacher begins the lesson, guiding students through an “I do. We do. You do.” sequence of activities. This includes a short mini-lesson led by the teacher, student group or partner practice, and then independent student writing activities.
As students submit their writing, they immediately receive personalized feedback about how well their work aligns to the outcome and skill being practiced.
The feedback includes a glow and grow response.
Based on the feedback they receive, students revise their work to further practice and refine the targeted skill. Curipod states, “Revision is where growth happens.”
This revision practice is followed up with updated feedback.
When students have completed the lesson work, teachers can view a report showing how students have done and how they have grown across the lesson.
Curipod identifies patterns across the class which can help planning next steps.
Teachers also have the ability to drill down and view individual student results and interactions.
