In today’s episode, we’ll explore ideas for creating AI rules and guidelines at the classroom level.
Leverage school and district work.
- Find and read school policies.
- Encourage school-wide collaboration.
- Generate consistency within departments and grade levels.
Fine-tune classroom policy.
- Get student input using a T-Chart or Y-Chart.
- Consider available models:
- Red, Yellow, and Green Light categorization from Adrian Cotterell at Teacher Directed AI
- AI Assessment Scale developed by Leon Furze, Dr. Mike Perkins, Dr. Jasper Roe, and Jason MacVaugh
- Chatbot and AI considerations from Matt Miller at Ditch That Textbook
- Citation model recommendations around generative AI, including MLA, APA, and the Chicago Manual of Style
- Be transparent about how AI detection software will or won’t be used.
Reference existing guidelines.
- Seek out existing classroom rules for consideration.
- Lean on state guidance.
- Consider common practices:
- Acknowledge school and district expectations.
- Address academic integrity.
- Generate a list of best practices for student use.
